What goes in, and why

• Whole skinless duck breast. A richer red meat than chicken, higher in iron and B vitamins. Taking the skin off keeps the fat down while the protein stays.
• Free-range egg. Nature's reference protein. Egg carries every essential amino acid in a form dogs absorb readily, plus choline for brain and liver function.
• Fresh blueberries. Among the most antioxidant-rich fruits there is, thanks to the anthocyanins that give them their colour, with vitamin C and fibre alongside.
• Vitamin E. Our natural preservative. An antioxidant that keeps the oils in the recipe fresh, which is how the pack stays good without anything artificial.

Two proteins are better than one here. Duck is excellent but not perfectly balanced on its own, and the egg fills the amino acid gaps so the pair covers more than either would alone. The blueberries bring the antioxidants that a meat-only treat has none of, and their fibre steadies a richer recipe.

New to duck? Start small. Duck is the richest bark we make, and dogs meeting a new protein for the first time can be a bit gassy while they adjust. The egg and the fibre from the blueberries are there to keep it gentle, but if your dog has not had duck before, give a small piece for the first few days and build up from there rather than starting with a full serve.

How to serve

Break the bark into smaller pieces for training and rewards, or crumble it over a meal to make dinner more interesting. Keep treats to no more than 10% of your dog's daily intake, and always leave fresh water out.
