What goes in, and why

• Australian beef lung. An organ meat that is naturally high in protein and unusually low in fat, and a strong source of iron and B vitamins, which support energy and healthy blood. It dries light and airy, so it is easy to break up.
• Beetroot. Where the deep colour comes from, with no dye involved. Beetroot carries betalain antioxidants and adds fibre.
• A little ginger. Long used to settle the stomach, and a sensible companion to organ meat, which is richer than muscle meat.
• Vitamin E. Our natural preservative. An antioxidant that keeps the oils in the recipe fresh, which is how the pack stays good without anything artificial.

Organ meat is the most nutrient-dense part of the animal, and it is also the part dogs most often get too much of at once. The beetroot's fibre and the ginger are there to soften that, so the iron and B vitamins in the lung arrive without the heaviness. How to serve

Break the bark into smaller pieces for training and rewards, or crumble it over a meal to make dinner more interesting. Keep treats to no more than 10% of your dog's daily intake, and always leave fresh water out.
